Wyoming State High School Wrestling

After the con­clu­sion of the 3rd and 5th place matches, Wyoming State Wrestling is ready to fin­ish up the sea­son with the final matches to deter­mine the state cham­pi­ons. The Casper Event Cen­ter is being prepped and the wrestlers who will be in the next round are busy warm­ing up, and jog­ging laps around the three remain­ing mats.

Many impres­sive 3rd place matches were wres­tled and one in par­tic­u­lar by Andrew Litzel of Buf­falo.  Litzel fought off Dane Doo­ley of Wor­land and won by deci­sion 5–3.  Buf­falo Head Coach, Jay Camino said  “He lost a tough match last night but came back focused and over­all pre­formed very well.”

A full list­ing of tonight’s final win­ners will be posted after the events have con­cluded, as well as pic­tures from the event. Stay tuned!


The Final day of the Wyoming State Wrestling Cham­pi­onships will con­clude today at the Casper Event Cen­ter. Ten­sions are high, as teams from all over the state com­pete on nine dif­fer­ent mats in order to prove who is the best of the best. Cham­pi­onship matches will begin tonight at 6:30 p.m., imme­di­ately fol­low­ing the 3rd and 5th place matches at 3:15 p.m.

      Wyoming beats North­ern Iowa for sole pos­ses­sion of first place.

      The Wyoming Cow­boys won their sec­ond dual on the day beat­ing the North­ern Iowa Pan­thers 26–12 to take over sole pos­ses­sion of first place in the West­ern Wrest­ing Con­fer­ence stand­ings at the Uni­Wyo Sports Com­plex Sat­ur­day evening.

      Wyoming (8−3, 3–0 WWC) got off to a quick start and never looked back, while North­ern Iowa (6−10, 2–2 WWC) dropped both its duals on the day.

      The Cow­boys started the dual off in a big way at the 125 pound spot with No. 11-ranked Michael Mar­tinez rebound­ing from a two-match los­ing streak to upend Ter­rance Young of UNI 6–0 on an injury default. … Con­tinue Reading

      Wyoming grap­plers thump Utah Valley

      The Wyoming Cow­boys wrestling team got back on the win­ning track in a big way against West­ern Wrestling Con­fer­ence foe Utah Val­ley Sat­ur­day after­noon, defeat­ing the Wolver­ines 37–3 at the Uni­Wyo Sports Com­plex in Laramie.

      Wyoming (7−3, 2–0 WWC) con­tin­ues action later today against its sec­ond WWC oppo­nent of the after­noon North­ern Iowa. The pokes can take sole pos­ses­sion of first place in the WWC stand­ings with a win over UNI. Utah Val­ley (6−2, 2–1 WWC) defeated North­ern Iowa 19–16 ear­lier in the day.

      The Wolver­ines took the first match at 125 pounds when No. 13-ranked Ben Kjar escaped No.11 Michael Mar­tinez 5–3 for a Utah Val­ley 3–0 lead, but they would not score again as the home team dom­i­nated from there on out. … Con­tinue Reading

      Cow­boys of Still­wa­ter too much for men of Laramie

      Some of the top wrestlers in the coun­try took the mat in front of a record crowd at the Arena-Auditorium Fri­day night in Laramie and the 4th ranked Okla­homa State Cow­boys were too much for the Cow­boys of Wyoming win­ning a deci­sive dual 31–3.

      The atten­dance of 2,566 peo­ple is a new record to see a Wyoming wrestling match, which off­sets the for­mer record of 2,015 against Ore­gon State in 1996.

      Wyoming (6−3, 1–0 West­ern Wrestling Con­fer­ence), will step back into con­fer­ence play Sat­ur­day with duals against Utah Val­ley and North­ern Iowa. Okla­homa State (10−2−1) will also face North­ern Iowa on Thursday.

      The evening started off with a bang at the 125 pound match that pit­ted No. 10-ranked Chris Notte of OSU against No. 11 Michael Mar­tinez of UW.       Cow­boys wrestlers dom­i­nate North­ern Colorado

      The Uni­ver­sity of Wyoming Cow­boy wrestling team came out strong in
      their match up against the Uni­ver­sity of North­ern Col­orado Bears in the
      Wyo Sports Com­plex Fri­day night. The Wyoming cow­boys dom­i­nated the UNC
      Bears and at one point lead in team scor­ing by 30–0.
