LHS hosts first Nordic ski meet of sea­son

altThe Laramie High School Nordic Ski Team host­ed the first high school Nordic race of the year at Hap­py Jack recre­ation area this Fri­day and Sat­ur­day. The six Wyoming teams com­pet­ed in team sprint races Fri­day and a dis­tance freestyle race Sat­ur­day.

Two ath­letes made up each team for the sprint race, con­sist­ing of a .8 km loop around the camp ground, com­plet­ed a total of six times for var­si­ty races and four times for junior var­si­ty races. For the men’s var­si­ty, Kel­ly Walsh High School (KWHS) of Casper took first, fol­lowed by Jack­son Hole and Laramie. In the women’s var­si­ty race, KWHS and Natrona Coun­ty High School (NCHS) took first, fol­lowed by Jack­son Hole and Lan­der (LVHS) in third. NCHS and KWHS took first in the men’s junior var­si­ty race, fol­lowed by

LVHS and NCHS. LVHS took first and third in the women’s junior var­si­ty race with NCHS tak­ing sec­ond.Saturday’s race start­ed out in the camp­ground loop and went out into the mead­ow to trails fur­ther out and end­ed down Ridge/Alter trail back into the camp­ground loop. Levin Zars, a senior at LHS, took first in the men’s var­si­ty 5k race with a time of 16:12 fol­lowed by Bryan Sanger and Nathan Hough of KWHS with times of 16:46 and 16:58. The var­si­ty women’s race was won by Brid­get Wein­er of KWHS, with a time of 21:12. Lau­ra Stamp, of NCHS was sec­ond with a time of 21:31 fol­lowed by Jack­son Hole’s Yara Thomas, also fin­ish­ing with a time of 21:31.

Nor­man Car­di­nal of KWHS was first in the men’s junior var­si­ty 3k race with a time of 12:39, fol­lowed by Eric Brecheen with a time of 12:42 and Nick Pampe with a time of 13:16,
both of Jack­son. The women’s junior var­si­ty race was won in 14:40 by Natal­ie Thulin of Jack­son. Tasha Radoso­vich of NCHS was sec­ond with a time of 14:54 fol­lowed by her team mate Mar­ley Real­ing with a time of 15:40.

The next high school Nordic Ski meet will be held on Decem­ber 18th and 19th on Casper Moun­tain.
